The European Lightweight Cluster Alliance (ELCA) and the European Lightweight Association (ELA) are pleased to announce their official merger, forming a unified network dedicated to advancing innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness in the lightweight
materials industry.

The merger brings together the expertise, networks, and resources of both organisations to create a stronger, more influential alliance that will drive forward lightweight solutions across multiple sectors, including automotive, aerospace, construction, and renewable energy. By joining forces, ELCA will continue to enhance collaboration between industry leaders, research institutions, and policymakers, ensuring a cohesive strategy for the future of lightweight materials in Europe and beyond.

“This merger represents a significant milestone for the European lightweighting industry,” said Ricardo del Valle, coordinator of the ELCA. “By combining our efforts, we are reinforcing our commitment to improve the positioning of lightweighting in Europe, as an enabler of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.”

From the ELA perspective, the merger represents an opportunity for greater impact.

“ELA has always championed lightweight solutions, and this merger allows us to contribute on a much larger scale,” said Martin Zottler from the Austrian lightweighting platform A2LT. “By uniting with ELCA, we ensure that our members have a stronger voice and more opportunities for collaboration.”

The newly unified alliance will continue to offer key programs, funding opportunities, and networking initiatives to foster advancements in lightweight technology in a coordinated way. Members of both ELCA and ELA will benefit from an expanded network dedicated to lightweighting, increased advocacy efforts, and greater access to international markets.
